We had a great time performing on Sunday for an enthusiastic crowd at McFarland’s Larson House Museum. This was a benefit for the Larson House and the McFarland Historical Society. Dash did two separate program of tricks for the over 200 guests, and 14 year old “big brother” Savvy opened Dash’s first performance with a… Continue reading Fun at the Larson House Museum’s Steampunk Strawberry Social
Hi everyone, sorry for the absence of posts for a while. I had a knee replacement in April and the healing process is going very slowly. The good news is that Dash has recovered from his hip dislocation in December and has resumed his daily frisbee catching. We’ve also started practicing some new tricks. Our… Continue reading Dash to perform on June 26th at Larson House
As you might recall, America’s Got Talent scouted us just 2 weeks after Dash dislocated his hip playing frisbee with my mom. So we initially said “not this year.” Dash had permission from his vet to resume normal activities as of Feb. 3. On Feb. 6th, I decided to call the talent director at America’s… Continue reading Our America’s Got Talent audition reel [VIDEO]
Here’s Dash’s progress at the 2 1/2 week point after his first time seeing the tightrope. What a bold and hard-working guy he is! So much for the shrinking-violet toy breed stereotype…
For week 2 of Dash’s tightrope training, I’ve introduced the idea of walking backwards and also doing a 180 degree turn on the tightrope. It’s shaky going, but I’m amazed at how far he has come in less than two weeks!
I thought it would be interesting to see how long it took Dash to learn a bunch of tricks on the tightrope, starting with straight, forward walking. I’m expecting at least a month of daily practice to get confident forward walking without any slipping. I’ve been filming a couple of “crossings” each day, and here… Continue reading Dash’s high-wire progress after 1 week [VIDEO]
Dash is still on “limited exercise” until Feb. 3rd, so I’ve been busy building and painting props instead. For Dash’s tightrope safety harness, I hoped to buy a RuffWear Doubleback harness, made for SAR dogs to rappel down cliffs. But it only comes in big-dog sizes. So I sewed my own. I used nylon straps,… Continue reading Dash’s first day on the high wire [VIDEO]
The Casting Director from America’s Got Talent wrote to me yesterday evening and requested I contact her–presumably to audition for the show. How cool is that?! Could there be much worse of a time for one’s performing dog to have a dislocated hip requiring a couple months of rehab? We’ll miss the audition period for… Continue reading Dash has just been scouted… by America’s Got Talent!
Time for a hip update! It’s been 17 days since Dash dislocated his hip. At about the Day 3 mark, Dash decided he was back to normal. Since then, he has been trying to dive on/off furniture, race squirrels across the icy yard, take stairs 3 at a time, and gallop around at full speed.… Continue reading Dash’s dislocated hip update
Dash performed last night at the year-end show for Dead Man’s Carnival, the Milwaukee-based “largest variety show in the Midwest.” The performance was at a sold-out Miramar Theatre and was held as a “circus in the round” event. That meant we had an audience on every side, so we sometimes had to perform tricks twice… Continue reading Dead Man’s Carnival at the Miramar Theatre [VIDEO]
