This was a disc dog workshop I attended over the weekend. It wasn’t technically an “animal act,” but it did include a demo, so I’m going to blog it anyway. I reviewed Jonathan’s disc dog show at the Wisconsin State Fair last summer, and eagerly awaited his disc dogging workshop. Though Jonathan lives in the… Continue reading Jonathan Offi’s workshop, “The Art of Canine Frisbee”
There was a nice story about Dash today in the McFarland Thistle newspaper. Reporter Amber Gerber did a terrific job. She came to our home to record an interview, and then came to the library performance for Martin Luther King Jr. Day a few days later to see Dash in action and get the cute… Continue reading Dash’s E.D. Locke Library performance in the news
Today we had a fun lunchtime visit from a McFarland Thistle newspaper about Dash’s career as a library performer. She’s also going to come take some pictures of his performance at the E.D. Locke Public Library next week. Just before she came, our new batch of business cards arrived. And after work today, we braved… Continue reading Our new business cards
I’m a fan of dog trick videos from the past and present and have watched over a thousand of them, including many vintage clips from the early 1900s. I always get teary to see footage of vintage dogs doing amazing tricks where neither dog nor trainer is credited–now totally lost to history. I’m going to… Continue reading The greatest dog trick trainer you have never heard of: Ray Nicholus & his dog, Jackie
On Dec. 2nd, Dash performed his second year-end show with Dead Man’s Carnival, the largest variety show in the Midwest. I decided to debut the skit we’re preparing for our Feb. 18, 2017 performance at Overture Center (Madison), even though I didn’t quite know how long each section would take and hadn’t finished editing the… Continue reading Introducing Dash’s new skit, “Circus Story” [VIDEO]
Mom and I just got back from the much-anticipated performance of the Amazing Acro-Cats, which has been getting a ton of pre-show buzz among my Madison-area Facebook friends. Not only a “cat show”–as if that isn’t enough– Acro-Cats turns out to be a multi-species extravaganza headed by talented Chicago-area clicker trainer, Samantha Martin. (For my… Continue reading The Amazing Acro-Cats in Madison
Dash’s roll of cheer(leading) matting arrived today from Texas and is already set up in the basement. We got a single 6′ x 42′ roll at the very spendy price of $706. I can cut it up and piece it together with some super wide velcro strips (included) to fit different stage areas. It’s so… Continue reading Dash’s new “cheer matting” and prop cabinet
Dash has just been invited to return for the 2016 year-end show of Dead Man’s Carnival. DMC consists of a dozen or more vaudeville, magic, acrobatic and variety acts with a rotating cast of regular and guest performers. The Magnificents band plays live roots music throughout each performance. The year-end show will be a circus-in-the-round… Continue reading Dash to perform at Dead Man’s Carnival year-end show in Milwaukee
Here is Dash’s minimalist Skeletor costume. 🙂 My mom got this plastic skull at Walgreens and has been pestering me to take photos of Dash in it. He has to look up at the sky while wearing it, so I just put it on a few seconds at a time, snapped a photo and then… Continue reading Happy Halloween 2016!
I’ve been shaving Dash every 4 weeks for about a year now. He normally has a gorgeous long coat. My reasons for shaving him are that it is more hygienic, prevents him accumulating burrs/dirt/leaves/mulch in his coat while outdoors, but mostly because his ear hair used to tangle in everything. It tangled around collars, leashes… Continue reading Oh no, not another haircut already!
